Cloud-native backup, recovery, and ransomware protection—all managed through the same interface and supported by the same enterprise service team as virtualization, storage, and networking. Workloads migrated from VMware can also be protected natively from day one.

For years, data protection has often operated separately from the cloud platforms enterprises rely on. Bigstack today announced CubeDPX, a new cloud-native backup solution that integrates backup, recovery, and ransomware protection directly into CubeCOS. Enterprises can manage data protection through the same interface they already use to manage virtualization, storage, and networking, while receiving support from the same enterprise service team. Even workloads migrated from VMware can be brought under protection immediately after migration.

Data Protection Shouldn't Require Another System

The challenge enterprises face is rarely a lack of backup software. Instead, it is the complexity of integrating a separate backup solution into an already demanding operational environment. This often means additional backup servers, software installation and updates, agent deployment or host reconfiguration, as well as a separate licensing agreement with its own renewal cycle.

CubeDPX is designed to eliminate these integration and operational burdens. Enterprises no longer need to procure and maintain a separate product for backup and recovery. With a unified management interface and support channel, operations teams can follow one set of procedures and manage a single platform.

For teams planning to migrate away from VMware, ensuring that data is fully backed up and can be reliably recovered remains one of the most stressful and high-risk aspects of the migration process. With CubeDPX, everything from pre-migration environment checks to ongoing data protection after migration can be managed by the same team through the same system. There is no need to introduce an additional backup tool specifically for the migration project.

Compute nodes and block storage are connected through a dedicated storage network, while backup data is written to storage through a separate backup network. Faster Recovery, Lower Risk: Core Capabilities of CubeDPX

CubeDPX supports application-consistent backups. Through an agent deployed inside the virtual machine, applications are quiesced before backup to ensure application consistency, rather than relying solely on crash-consistent disk snapshots. This allows workloads to return to a more complete and consistent application state after restoration, reducing the time and risk associated with manually repairing databases or applications.

After the initial full backup, CubeDPX backs up only the data blocks that have changed. This enables enterprises to run backups more frequently while keeping backup windows and storage growth under control.

For day-to-day operations, CubeDPX follows a simple principle: configure once and automate the rest. Administrators can configure backup schedules, retention periods, and protection scopes for different workloads or tenants directly through the CubeCOS interface. Once configured, backups run automatically according to policy, without requiring teams to learn another management system.

For managed service providers (MSPs) and telecommunications operators, individual tenants can also manage their own backups according to their assigned permissions, while platform administrators retain centralized oversight and control.

CubeDPX also reduces ransomware risks through immutable backups. Backup data can be stored in S3-compatible object storage with immutability enabled. During the configured retention period, backups cannot be arbitrarily modified or deleted, even in the event of malicious activity or accidental deletion. This helps enterprises address data governance, regulatory, and security requirements.

In addition, backups use open, portable virtual disk formats and can be stored on storage infrastructure controlled by the enterprise. This allows organizations in finance, government, and service providers with strict data sovereignty requirements to retain control over their data.

CubeDPX also enables workloads to be protected immediately after VMware migration. Because data protection is integrated into the cloud platform, CubeDPX can be incorporated into VMware migration workflows. Migration tools perform pre-migration validation before automating the migration process. Once a workload has been migrated, it can be brought directly under existing backup and recovery policies without the need to establish a separate data protection workflow.
