As virtualization licensing models undergo significant restructuring and the adoption of private AI accelerates, enterprises face mounting pressure to transform their IT environments. This platform will enable enterprises to maintain full control over their data while leveraging private cloud computing resources.
Zero-Downtime Upgrades: CubeCOS Redefines Infrastructure Operations
Enterprises face the risk of service disruption during virtualization platform upgrades. In response, Bigstack Technology Evangelist Brian Su announced the release of CubeCOS 3.1 in the first quarter. It is designed to significantly reduce upgrade friction and operational complexity.
CubeCOS 3.1 introduces live and cold migration capabilities and one-click rolling updates. It integrates health checks and automated rollback mechanisms, transforming traditionally high-risk upgrades into routine maintenance operations. The release also adds a Traditional Chinese user interface, enhanced IPMI-based remote management, and OCI storage support, further improving operational efficiency and manageability.
Continuing the platform's evolution, Bigstack Chief Operating Officer Gary Hsueh unveiled CubeCMP 2.1, built around the principles of greater flexibility, automation, and visibility. Through advanced network controls, API-driven self-service capabilities, and multi-dimensional operational insights, CubeCMP 2.1 further strengthens the management of hybrid and multi-cloud environments.
Beyond the Lab: Open Source Infrastructure Accelerates AI Adoption
Beyond product innovation, Bigstack is extending the value of open source into education and research. According to Yang Chao-Tung, Director of the Library and Information Center and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at Tunghai University, AI talent development should not be limited to models and algorithms alone. Equally important is cultivating an understanding of the underlying infrastructure and governance frameworks that enable AI systems to operate effectively.
To connect research with real-world use, the university's HPC Lab used CubeCOS to combine existing server resources and create a hyperconverged platform. This environment supports various AI applications, such as echocardiography analysis and tennis match analytics. It enables researchers to accelerate experimentation and production deployment.

In the semiconductor research domain, Dr. Lin-Hung Lai of the Institute of Electronics at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University explained how his team met the demanding requirements of IC design workloads using CubeCMP. The platform uses virtualization template management to enable researchers to respond more efficiently to fluctuating and peak computing demands
The team has also developed the AMP account management platform, which integrates virtual machine provisioning with electronic signature workflows. Combined with VDI-based remote desktop access and screen recording capabilities, the solution establishes a comprehensive audit framework that maintains separation between research and teaching environments while strengthening information security and compliance.

Migration as Governance: CubeDPX Helps Enterprises Break Free from Virtualization Lock-In
As enterprises reassess their virtualization strategies, data migration has emerged as a critical factor in infrastructure modernization. To address this challenge, Bigstack partnered with Trilio to introduce CubeDPX, a solution designed to simplify migration while ensuring data protection and operational continuity.
According to David Safaii, Co-founder and Chief Evangelist of Trilio, the greatest challenge in migration is not speed, but data integrity. Compared with a one-time cutover approach, phased incremental migration better aligns with the operational realities of enterprise environments.
Bigstack engineer Terry Shih further explained that CubeDPX adopts a "restore-first" design philosophy. By providing one-click recovery, selective recovery, and in-place recovery capabilities, the platform transforms migration from a high-risk project into a routine operational process.
Meanwhile, Jason Cheng, technical director of Jason Tools, explained how CubeCOS was integrated with the Graylog centralized logging platform. The team established 147 processing rules, 11 dashboards, 210 visualization components, and 12 alert policies through a six-layer data pipeline architecture, significantly enhancing observability across the open-source environment. The solution has also been contributed back to the community through GitHub.
Jason noted that more than 60% of the world's top 1,000 commercial software products rely on open-source technologies. This means that security is no longer the primary concern in enterprise adoption. Instead, organizations are increasingly evaluating the strength of vendor support and focusing on implementing three key principles: open standards, open source, and open formats.
